Do we value life?
Dear Friends,
i got up today at 5.30 and went for the gym. Just when i'd gone in the mess to have tea, i read the news "Over 100 killed in fire at Meerut".
By now you all must be familiar with the news, all the details in and out. What was the cause, how it happened, how many died, photographs, and what not....
The question still remains....When will we really understand the value of life?
The difference between a developed country and a developing country lies there, i guess.Since most of the present developed nations, especially those in Europe, have witnessed almost 4 decades of bloodshed during the two World Wars, they have already realised the importance of thinking about each individuals life and its importance.
Well, before i get out of focus, i just want to think about another question. Do we really think of preventive measures before a calamity strikes? Or do we utterly lack the foresight and vision to predict events on the basis of common sense?
It is but obvious that proper and sufficient care has to taken in order to handle a big event like the one held at Meerut. Haven't there been similar events of fire, stampede explosions earlier? What have we learnt from them, if at all we boast to have common sense? I think all these questions lead to a very bizarre reality that i can't negate. India may become a superpower by 2020, but only in economic terms. The people still lack common sense, civic sense and of course education.

i agree with you. but life outside isn´t all that nice either.
in the u.s it is true that there you can call 911 or any other emergency number and help arrives withing 3 minutes. we all see it in the movies, don´t we? what we don´t know is that if you call an emergency number a few days later comes the hefty bill!
